Job Description
Mental Health Skill Building Counseling provide time-limited trainings and supports that
assist Individual’s with developmental disabilities or who are classified as mentally ill. The goal is to
provide services and supports that will help the Individual to achieve and maintain community stability through teaching and reinforcement of independent living skills, identifying and using other resources in the community, assistance with medication management, and monitoring of psychical health and nutrition. Services take place in the Individual’s home and in their community.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of social work practices, case work methods, theories of behavior, counseling psychology
and behavior management and mental health principles. Working knowledge of State Regulations
governing licensed programs under the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Duties and other responsibilities will be discussed during interview.
Education and Credentials:
Must meet requirements for credential Quality Mental Health Professional- Adult (QMHP-A), as established by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field with at least one year of experience in a human services organization. Providers MUST meet all state requirements regarding criminal record history and must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s license and a good driving record. Providers must be willing to participate in all required trainings.
